Lovecraft Country: Plot and Cast
Atticus Freeman is a young black man who just served in the Korean War and comes back to Chicago. He finds a letter from his father Montrose, and in an effort to find out more about his family legacy, he plans a road trip with his friend Leto and his uncle George.
The 1950s in America was a time before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and thus racial segregation, especially against African Americans, was widespread. As if that wasn’t enough, his father’s hometown seems to be full of horrors and dark secrets. Ardham, Massachusetts, where his father’s legacy resides was also the hometown that inspired H.P. Lovecraft to write some of his horror works.
Atticus, Leti and George reach Ardham Lodge where strange and terrible things happen to them. They are chased around by a racist sheriff and his dogs. After that, they suffer from strange hallucinations with Biblical allusions. On top of that, they get involved with a secret order which attempts to reopen the Garden of Eden in order to gain immortality!
The cast of the show is quite a fine one and received universal critical acclaim. Jonathan Majors plays Atticus Freeman, Jurnee Smollett plays Leticia ‘Leti’ Lewis and Courtney B. Vance plays George Freeman.
