Unlike Flaubert’s Madame Bovary who had two affairs and committed suicide, Madame Web is not in the mood to die, after losing her powers and suffering from Myasthenia Gravis, she is still healthy enough to commit brutal crimes (not as brutal as having affairs under the reign of Louis Philippe I). In September 2019, Sony Pictures announced the development of a new “Madame Web” film with writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who have previously written cults like “Dracula Untold”, “The Last Witch Hunter” and “The God of Egypt”.
Although Sony has not commented upon it, some sources have revealed that Sony has hired Veteran TV director S.J. Clarkson to direct Sony’s first female-centric superhero movie. We do not have a confirmed announcement but the “First female-centric” superhero movie could only mean that we have moved a step closer to the production of “Madame Web”. Announced in 2019 “Madame Web ” doesn’t have anything on the plates yet, Sony has commented that the search for an A-list actor is going on and after that, they’ll hire someone to pen the screenplay.
S.J. Clarkson has been associated with TV direction from a long time having titles like “Banshee”, “Bates Motel” and “Succession”, she has even directed a Marvel’s character “Jessica Jones” for Netflix. Clarkson could’ve been the first director to direct “Star Wars” as she was in the talks for a while but the project got away from her. Anyways, given her experience and talent, she might be the right choice for “Madam Web”.
“Madame Web” was a Marvel Character created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. She first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #210. “Madame Web” or Cassandra Web is not a typical physically built villain, she is an old woman suffering from Myasthenia Gravis and lives on a life support system that looks like a spider web. She has mutant cognitive powers and clairvoyance, which she uses to commit crimes.
There are no announcements about the plot, trailer, or release date of the movie but we will keep in touch with the wicked old-lady.
