The Masters of the Universe reboot is constantly facing new delays one after another. The project is undergoing numerous conflicts. In the midst of such a situation, the films are losing patience and enthusiasm for the reboot film.
Noah Centineo was cast for the lead titular role some time ago. But after he suffered an injury, there is less of the scope of him actually being a part of the film. Moreover, Tom Hardy is being suspected to take up the role of Skeletor. Talking about the status of the film, the project was taken up by Sony from Warner Bros in 2009. They announced this on twitter posting an official image alongside. As the budget of the film is pretty high, it seems that Sony is onto production partners for the film. This is one of the reasons why we still see little progress made towards the actualization of film.
The original 1987 film
In 1987, the original live-action film of Masters of the Universe was released. It starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor, Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn, Friends TV show fame Courtney Cox as Julie Winston and Chelsea Field as Teela. Despite having an action-packed thriller plot, the film did not do well in the box office. Still, it became a cult classic in the preceding years.
More updates on the reboot
Dolph Lundgren, in an interview with IGN, shared his wish of wanting Chris Hemsworth to take up his role as He-Man in the reboot project of the film. Lundgren also was suspected to feature in the reboot version as King Randor. But Hemsworth denied the offer owing to the similarities of He-Man with his recurring role as Thor in the films of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film has already been passed on from over a dozen of directors and screenwriters to create the reboot. The latest updates announced Nee brothers (Aaron and Adam Nee) as directors along with Art Marcum and Matt Halloway as screenwriters. Sony declared March 5, 2021, as the official release date for the film.
But gradually Sony seemed to lose interest in the project. Fans anticipating the reboot of the cult classic will have to be even more patient due to the halts caused in the project due to the COVID-19 crisis.
