MediaTeK’s upcoming Helio P90 chipset for mid-range smartphones
today appeared in benhmarking site AnTuTu. The Taiwanese chipset manufacturer unveiled it earlier this month and comes with a new APU 2.0 fusion AI architecture, which the company claims to have four times higher AI performance when compared to the Helio P70 chipset.

MediaTek Helio P90

The benchmarked device featured 6GB RAM and runs the latest Android 9 Pie. It sports a display with a resolution of FHD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) and 128GB internal storage. It managed an overall score of 1,62,861 on the site putting it at the same level as the Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 710 whose score was around 150k and 170k respectively. Manufactured on a 12nm FinFET processor by TSMC, it is a decent improvement over the Helio P70 which was announced a few weeks back.

The octa-core MediaTek Helio P90 chipset features two ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. Following most modern mobile chipsets design, the P90’s eight cores are arranged in a big.LITTLE configuration. For the graphics department, it includes a PowerVR GM 9446 GPU from Imagination Technologies.

The Helio P90 can handle 8GB of 1866 MHz LPDDR4x memory, 1080 x 2520 Full HD+ resolution displays along with 48MP single or 24MP + 16MP dual cameras. Connectivity options include dual 4G support, Cat.12/13 4G LTE modem along with 4×4 MIMO, 3CA and 256QAM. There is also Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS FM radio, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, BeiDou, and Galileo. The first devices with the handset are expected to arrive early next year.
