It’s only been a few months, and we have seen our fair share of new smartphone forms this year. From foldable smartphones to phones with no slots like the Meizu Zero, they give a glimpse of what we might have in the future. Samsung and Huawei have already demonstrated real-life use cases of their foldable smartphone while we expect to see Motorola’s Moto Razr soon. Xiaomi is also gearing up for its Mi Fold foldable smartphone and has released a new teaser online.
Notably, the Xiaomi Mi Fold uses not just one, but two creases are allowing double folds on the smartphone. It was first teased by the company’s senior executives earlier this year. It mainly focused on showing the different orientations in which it can work.
The company released the teaser in Chinese media platform Weibo, but it doesn’t offer much new information. The animation accompanying the transitions from a larger footprint to smaller footprint seems smoother and refined compared to early ones. Moreover, the video also reveals a USB port at the bottom of the device.
The handset’s USP is its convenient and compact design which allows easy single-handed use. Also being a Xiaomi device, it is expected to be a bit cheaper compared to others. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X will easily cost you $2000 or more. Xiaomi’s double folding smartphone might come with a lower price tag than that.
We are still very much in the dark on why Xiaomi chose to include the instant noodle in the video. It may be either to metaphorise the quick transition and flexibility or the ease of use with one hand. The company is yet to announce an official launch date of the handset but the arrival of the second teaser indicates we won’t have to wait long. We can’t wait to see what additional features will be included in the Xiaomi’s double foldable smartphone. Keep tuned for further updates.
