Mixed-ish Season 2 – Cast details and more interesting updates!

on

Mixed-ish is a sitcom television series on ABC. The series is a prequel spin-off of Black-ish, and is the second series to be spun off from that show, after Grown-ish. Mixed-ish is created by Kenya Barris, Peter Saji and Tracee Ellis Ross, with the trio also serving as executive producers on the show alongside Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishburne. Mixed-ish was ordered by ABC in May 2019, and premiered on September 24, 2019. In the following month, in October, Mixed-ish was ordered for a full 23 episode season.

Mixed-ish is loosely based on the life of Dr. Rania Barris, wife of the creator of the show Kenya Barris. The series revolves around the childhood story of Rainbow Johnson as she recalls her experience (the grown-up Rainbow Johnson serving as the narrator) growing up in a mixed race family in the 1980s. The Johnson family try to find their identity, whether they should assimilate, or stay true to themselves, as they move from a hippie community to a new suburb in 1985.

In May 2020, ABC renewed Mixed-ish for a second season.

Cast of Mixed-ish Season 2

Arica Himmel stars as the 12 year old Rainbow Sojourner “Bow” Johnson. Tracee Ellis Ross, who plays the grown up version of Bow on Black-ish, stars as the narrator in Mixed-ish, detailing her childhood stories and early background in each episode. Tika Sumpter stars as Bow’s hardworking mother, Alicia Johnson. Alicia is a lawyer, who works at her father-in-law’s practice. Mark-Paul Gosselaar stars as Bow’s father, Paul Jackson. Gary Cole stars as Bow’s paternal grandfather, Harrison Jackson III. Christina Anthony stars as Alicia’s sister and Bow’s maternal aunt, Denise. Mykal-Michelle Harris stars as Bow’s sassy younger sister, Santamonica Johnson. The older version of Santamonica’s character is played by Rashida Jones, who appears on the show in fast-forward clips. Ethan William Childress stars as Bow’s younger brother, Johan Johnson. Daveed Diggs plays the future version of Johan, who also appears on the show in fast-forward clips.

As of right now, there has been no official announcement for a premiere date for season 2 of Mixed-ish. The second season can be expected to premiere in mid-season, in early 2021. A trailer for second season has also not been released yet. Until then, you can watch the trailer of season 1 of Mixed-ish right here.
