Monsterland is an upcoming horror anthology series that will premiere on Hulu. Mary Laws created it and based on the novel North America Lake Monsters: Stories written by Nathan Ballingrud. This adds to the already growing repertoire of horror we have seen on television and cinema this year. As if we don’t have enough to be worried and scared about in real life! However, the show features a star-studded cast with gems like Kaitlyn Dever and Taylor Schilling. Is the series worth watching? When does it come out? Read more to find out!
Monsterland: Plot and Cast
Monsterland consists of eight episodes. Since it is an anthology, it is quite likely that none of the episodes will be related to each other. They are titled on the basis of the city where they occur, each being a city in the United States.
Each of the episodes features the different encounters people have with supernatural and magical beasts, such as mermaids, Gothic creatures, fallen angels, and werewolves. The theme of the show seems to be rather Frankenstein-like in nature, where interactions between these groups show that there is a very fine line between man and beast.
Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran plays the lead role of Lauren in the episode ‘Iron River, MI’. She returns home to Michigan to get married. Unbelievable star Kaitlyn Dever plays a struggling waitress named Toni in the first episode ‘Port Fourchon, LA’. She and Jonathan Tucker’s character Alex discover the limits of their existence in this episode.
Each of the stories is meant to show what American culture looks like. They also try to show the more emotional side of horror, and do not just depend on the scare factor.
