Morbius: Cast, Release Date and more details!

Morbius, the second film in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, is based on the character of Dr. Michael Morbius, Ph.D, M.D. He is also known as Morbius, the Living Vampire in the comics. This film could finally be the one that eventually brings together the Sony and the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. The film was officially announced in November 2017. The official synopsis of the film reads:

“Suffering from a rare blood disease, Michael Morbius tries a dangerous cure that afflicts him with a form of vampirism.”

In June of 2018, Daniel Espinosa was hired to direct the film. He had previously directed the film Life in 2017 for Sony Pictures. In the same month, Jared Leto was cast to play the role of Dr. Michael Morbius. He had been linked to the role as early as May 2017, but was waiting for a good script to come his way to officially join the project. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster were hired as producers for the film.

Matt Smith has been cast to play the role of Loxias Crown, who suffers from the same rare blood disease as Michael. 6 Underground’s Adria Arjona has been cast to play the role of Michael’s fiancée, Martine Bancroft. Jared Harris will playing the role of Michael’s mentor in the film. Al Madrigal has been cast to play the role of FBI agent Alberto Rodriguez, hunting Morbius. Tyrese Gibson will also be playing the role of an FBI agent, Simon Stroud, who is hunting Morbius. Additionally, Michael Keaton, who played the role of Adrian Toomes/Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming will also appear in the film. His involvement in the film might be the key to Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters and the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming together in the future.

Release Date of Morbius

The film was first scheduled to release on July 10, 2020 before being postponed by three weeks to July 31, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release of the film was further postponed by Sony to 2021. Morbius is slated for release on March 19, 2021.
