Created, written, directed, and starring multi-talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt, “Mr. Corman” is an upcoming American comedy-drama television series and premieres on Friday, August 6, 2021, on Apple TV.
WHAT IS THE SHOW ABOUT?
The official synopsis reads: “With better luck, better choices, better posture, Josh Corman could’ve been a rockstar. Now he teaches fifth grade, and though he loves his students, he still struggles to find happiness and meaning in a world that sometimes feels short on both.”
Gordon-Levitt stars as Josh Corman, a thirtysomething fifth-grade teacher who is deeply unhappy with his life and wants to do something more, something different. He used to be a musician, but he hasn’t picked up an instrument in years, and that missed opportunity haunts him at every turn. He’s broke, he’s lonely, and he’s surrounded by fake friends yammering about creating “content” and becoming “verified.”
The story is of a restless soul, someone who is sent into a tailspin in the first episode when someone in his class brings up how much of life’s success is luck and how is much is talent. He becomes increasingly anxious as he sees people going off to their own lives of simple happiness. Is this all there is? When a possible hook-up tells him, “The only people who become teachers are people who wanted to become something else and gave up,” Josh looks hurt, but knows she’s right about him.
