Much awaited The Last Kingdom Season 4 is back!

It was in November 2018, fans of The Last Kingdom Season 3 finished all episodes and started asking for more. Only after 17 months of wait, their questions are being answered now. Though the announcement of the renewal of a new season came long back on 26th December 2018 the official release date announcement came on 19th March this year. According to the statement, the new season will be released on April 26, 2020.

The Last Kingdom is a British historical television series based on Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’. The first two parts of the series were aired on BBC Two and BBC America till 2017. Then the subsequent season was streamed in Netflix and now the new season has also been released on Netflix. The production for the same began in December 2018 in Hungary.

Trailer release

The trailer for the new season was released earlier this April. Netflix has planned to release all episodes in one go and the total duration is said to be 10 hours. The episodes will not be streamed on BBC. Both seasons 1 and 2 contained 8 episodes but the number increased when it entered the streaming platform Netflix.
In its official Twitter handle, The Last Kingdom has described the trailer as, “Just a little taste of what is to come”.

What is the storyline?

Season 4 is said to continue from where it left in season 3- Uhtred is in good terms with Alfred and has already helped Edward to ascend the throne. He has lost his wife and there is no love for him. The new season is going to focus more on the relationship between Aethelflaed and Uhtred. The first episode of the new season begins with Uhtred being in a comfortable place thinking to return to Bebbanburg and take what he believes is his own.

However, the series’ executive producer Nigel Marchant, in an interview with Variety, has opened up about the deaths of some major characters. Also, there is a strong featuring of Uhtred as a father in this new series. He will be seen as a father of his teenage children-his son and daughter, more.
This season will also be the first one to not include David Dawson as King Alfred.

Catch up all episodes now on Netflix.
