“Music is not what I do, it is who I am.”
Music is a weird thing. It boosts our motivation as well as help us get through the most tedious tasks. Music energizes our system and readies us to face everyday challenges. The sleek tunes make us transcend to some unknown dimension. You plug into your device and boom! A whole galaxy around you, spiraling like a kaleidoscope, manifesting multicolored designs. And fun fact, your favorite piece is etched in your memory, carrying it with you forever. The same must have been felt by the young Chris Rodriguez, a.k.a, DJ Slice, the Philadelphian DJ born in Wildwood, New Jersey, who spent his days listening to Freestyle, Hip-Hop, and R&B, and enjoyed the mixes of DJ AM, DJ Ski, and DJ Touchstone.
“When I perform, my music takes me to a place where I can be myself, without judgment and fear. I am never afraid to break the boundaries and I love creating mixes by melding different genres together. When I play music, I get to see how the audience appreciates my talents. Music sets people free, and I am overcome with joy knowing that my life has a purpose by enriching the lives of others.”
His odyssey started back in Wildwood circa 2000 and progressed gradually, collaborating with DJ Master J and M&J Entertainment, performing at private parties and nightclubs. Though his start was pretty slow, his eyes never stopped dreaming, not even when Bob Maschio of Coastal Broadcasting System offered him a position as a board operator. Slice strengthened his career base by moving to Philadelphia and by the divine’s grace, he met DJ TY of Unlimited Entertainment. Now, there’s no looking back for DJ Slice.
Pride never devoured his humbleness. Always wanted to contribute his potential for the right cause, he went ahead and created Wow Factor Entertainment to help all of his clients bring their vision to life, the ultimate destination of their entertainment. The list didn’t come to a halt. Kicking off with hosting his own mix show live on 98.7 FM WCZT The Coast and sister station 106.3 FM The Shore WJSE, Chris kept rising up in the glory, and was offered a spot to perform in front of 12,000 people on the beach at BeachGlow along with DJ 4B, Rainman, Brillz and Swoosh and many more.
DJ Slice recently launched his schwag collection called touching lives with positive vibes, and the revenue collected would be donated to the social helpers. Such an inspiration and a lead to follow.
Life never ceases to surprise us. Last year, when our DJ was performing at the Old Skool Throwback party, he never thought that luck would play its cards. The King of Freestyle, Stevie B, asked DJ Slice to be his official DJ, the first-ever DJ that Stevie B has had in his 33 years and began touring together. What else do you need? But wait, there are more surprises coming for him and for his fans. Stevie B offered DJ Slice a director position at his Royalty Radio and this year he was selected as a guest mixer for SiriusXM’s Pitbull’s Globalization Channel 13 and DJ Laz. Not really a bad start for this kind of year.
This world needs more people like him, who are strong to his roots and yet is never afraid to grow. One can never live without music, nor can the artists survive without an audience. We all should go hand in hand and support the artist, because why not.
