My Brilliant Friend is an Italian- and Neapolitan-language coming-of-age drama television series. L’amica geniale is what the show is called in Italian. This series is named after the first of four novels in the Neapolitan Novels. Elena Ferrante wrote these novels. The first season premiered on HBO on November 18, 2018.

WHAT IS ‘MY BRILLIANT FRIEND’ ABOUT?

According to Google, “Pseudonymous author Elena Ferrante has written four mega-popular Neopolitan novels that explore the complicated intensity of female friendship. “My Brilliant Friend” is the first in the series, and also the first to be adapted for television. Filmed in Italian, the eight-episode drama centres on elderly author Elena Greco, who learns that the most important friend in her life, Lila Cerullo, has disappeared without a trace. It causes Elena to reflect on the early days of their friendship in dangerous but fascinating Naples, Italy, in the 1950s, when Elena and Lila are two very different girls at the top of their class. The story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives as Elena tries to describe the mystery of Lila.”

WHAT’S THE CAST FOR ‘MY BRILLIANT FRIEND’?

In this show we can see Elisa Del Genio and Margherita Mazzucco as Elena “Lenù” Greco who play the role of a girl from a poor neighbourhood in the outskirts of 1950s Naples. This show sees Alba Rohrwacher narrate the events of the series from the point of view of adult Elena Greco. Anna Rita Vitolo acts as Immacolata Greco who in the show is Elena’s mother and Luca Gallone as Vittorio Greco who’s a porter and Elena’s father. We also see Imma Villa in this show act as Manuela Solara who’s role is Silvio Solara’s wife.
