Mystery Path is an Australian neo-Western-Crime Mystery TV series, the first of which was broadcast on ABC TV on 3 June 2018. The series is a spin-off of Ivan Sen’s feature films Mystery Path and Goldstone, which take place between the two. Indigenous Australian detective Jay Swan, played by Aaron Pedersen, is the lead character and actor in both the films and the two TV shows, each with six episodes.

Series 1 was directed by Rachel Perkins. Swan is called in to investigate the crime, with the local police officer featured by Judy Davis. In Series 2, directed by Warwick Thornton and Wayne Blair, which began airing on ABC on 19 April 2020, Swan is called in to solve a murder in a different area, with “local copper” being played this time by Jada Alberts. Both shows have been filmed in northwestern Australia.

Mystery Road Plot:

The Mystery Road Series 1 takes place between the events of the movies Mystery Road and Goldstone, and describes the tale of Detective Jay Swan, who was appointed to investigate the sudden disappearance of two young farmhands at the outback cattle station, one local Aboriginal football hero and the other white backpacker. Acting with local police sergeant Emma James, the investigation uncovers the sale in cocaine in the city and the past inequality that threatens the fabric of the whole society.

In season 2, Swan must unravel the mystery of the decapitated body that emerges in the mangroves. The storyline includes drug dealing and an archaeological search.

Mystery Road Season 3 Cast:

This show will continue to see Aaron Pedersen as Jay Swan, Judy Davis as Emma James and Deborah Mailman as Kerry Thompson. As usual, Wayne Blair will play the role of Larry Dime and Aaron McGrath will play the role of  Marley Thompson.

We are very hopeful that the news of the renewal will shortly be announced. If that occurs in the next few months, we should expect ‘Mystery Road’ season 3 to be premiered sometime in 2022.
