Nicolas Cage blockbuster National Treasure series is expecting its third installment since more than a decade now. This Disney franchise has promised another sequel with convincing affirmations by producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Can we expect its release on the newly launched streaming platform Disney Plus?
Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger starrer National Treasure was released in 2004. Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage) has an ancestry of treasure hunters. All of his forefathers were in search of a hidden war chest which was secretly hidden by Founding Fathers after the Revolutionary War. Finally after generations Benjamin was close to actually find this. But at the same time FBI also was searching for it. Even at the cost of his life Benjamin was determined to find the treasure.
Its sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets was back with a bang in 2007. Benjamin’s great grandfather is accused of being involved in the conspiracy of Abraham Lincoln’s murder by another treasure hunter Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris). While seeking the truth behind this takes Benjamin on an breathtaking adventure from Buckingham to White House Secret Documents to a forbidden City of Gold.
In December 2007, before the release of the second part, Cage was inclined towards making the third film with a more international plot and setting. Bruckheimer as well as Cage have indicated towards the script of the third installment being a work in progress for quite some time now. The film was back in attention this January when Chris Bremner took into hands screenwriting of the third part. Bremner was the writer of Will Smith starrer cop action thriller Bad Boys For Life and is also working on Bad Boys 4.
With the news of Bremner joining the crew the hopes of National Treasure fans have elevated. They are expecting something bigger and better than the prequels. The coronavirus pandemic will play a crucial role as an obstacle in its worldwide theatrical release. But things may be very different if it premieres on Disney Plus.
