Netflix Has Obtained Sequel Rights To Chicken Run 2!

Netflix has obtained sequel rights to Chicken Run 2 and it’s coming soon! It has been 20 years since Aardman’s Chicken Run released. Fans have waited a long time for the sequel. The first movie continues to be the ‘highest-grossing stop motion animated film in history’. Netflix obtained the sequel rights from Studiocanal and Pathe.

The sequel is directed by Sam Fell and written by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell. The movie is produced by Paul Kewley and Nick Park. Netflix announced the news of the second movie on the 20th anniversary of the first film!

What Is Chicken Run 2’s Story?

This is the official synopsis for the movie from Aardman Animations:

“Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream-a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk- this time, they’re breaking in!”

Aardman co-founder Peter Lord said, “Fans around the world have waited patiently for a sequel idea worthy of Chicken Run so we’re delighted to announce, on the 20th anniversary, that we’ve found the perfect story. Netflix feels like the ideal creative partner for this project too: they celebrate the film-maker, which means we can make the film we want to make- the one we really care about- and share it with a global audience.”

Whose Voices Can We Expect To Hear In The Sequel?

In the first movie, Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson voiced the characters of Ginger and Rocky respectively. Ginger is usually the first one to come up with ideas and is generally more intelligent than the other chickens. Rocky, on the other hand, is a laid-back rooster who crash lands on the farm and teaches the chickens to fly. There’s no official confirmation regarding the return of these 2 actors to voice over for the sequel yet.

What Is The Expected Release Date Of Chicken Run 2?

According to Aardman, they are looking for a 2021 production start date. So the movie might come out in 2021 or 2022 accordingly!
