Netflix’s 365 Dni: Probable Sequel and Ending Explained

Directed by  Barbara Białowąs and Tomasz Mandes, 365 dni (literally 365 Days) is a Polish erotic drama. It is based on the first novel of a trilogy written by Blanka Lipińska.

Five years ago, Massimo’s father and his number two, Mario, are in meeting with black market dealers. Massimo steps away to gaze upon a beautiful woman playing on a beach nearby. After the meeting, Massimo’s father suggests that his son become more serious about the family business as one day, Massimo will lead the Torricelli family. As they embrace, Massimo’s father is shot from behind, piercing Massimo as well.

Why 365 dni is referred to as “Polish Fifty Shades of Grey”?

365 dni stars Anna-Maria Sieklucka and Michele Morrone, it revolves around a young woman in a spiritless relationship falling head over heels in love with Massimo (played by Michele Morrone), a dominant man who is actually a Sicilian mob boss with a dangerous lifestyle.

The man goes on to imprison her and grants 365 days to fall in love with him. The drama premiered on 7 February 2020 on Netflix in Poland, quickly gaining global popularity.

365 dni is a perfect blend of problematic power dynamics and a borderline abusive relationship.

The film made the top 3 most viewed items on Netflix in several territories, including India, Germany, France, Lithuania, and other countries.

Full Marks For The Ending. So… Sequel?

We know that the drama ended on Laura getting attacked by the Italian Mafia while she was on a shopping spree for the wedding.

Massimo’s call with Laura drops when her car goes into a tunnel. His friend rushes in, and he knows she’s been attacked. What we don’t know is whether Laura is alive or dead. We never see her car leave the tunnel, and we see emergency vehicles arrive as the camera pans away.

365 dni ended on a rather desperate note, which is deemed to be a great way to end any franchise. Yes, franchise!, Although, there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding the sequel, one might be on the way. The second book in the series by Blanka Lipińska, Ten dzień, came out in 2018. Also, evidently, 365 dni is crushing it on Netflix with its popularity calling for another cash out of the trilogy.

Is Laura dead?

Going by the 365 dni book series, no, Laura did not die at the end of the movie. She has merely been abducted by the rival mafia family. The story is carried on in the sequel book by Blanka Lipińska. It finds Massimo attempting to rescue Laura from their clutches.
