Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi is an upcoming television miniseries made for Disney+, featuring the Star Wars character of the same name. Chow is also the executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Ewan McGregor and Joby Harold.
The project was originally planned to be made as a spin-off film but was changed to a limited series following the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. McGregor will also play an important role in the series and he announced his involvement during Disney’s D23 event in 2019.
So, when is Obi-Wan Kenobi releasing? What is the plot? Who have been cast in the lead roles? Continue reading to know further details.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Plot and Cast
The basic premise of the show will be set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, where the Jedi were destroyed by Order 66 and Anakin Skywalker became the Sith lord Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine when he finds himself embarking on a rollicking adventure.
Disney and Lucasfilm have decided not to submit the series to be considered at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards considering the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ criteria about hanging episodes of a series that would not fully release within the eligibility window, which ran until May 31, 2022 and it would require the final two episodes to be released to Academy voters by June 15.
The lead cast members confirmed to appear in the series include Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend and Sung Kang.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Release Date
Although production was scheduled to begin in July 2020, they were put on hold to rework on the script. Harold rewrote the series and castings were announced by March 2021.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to premiere on May 27, 2022. Two episodes will premiere at first and the other four will be released every week on Wednesdays from June 1 to June 22.
