OPPO announces ColorOS 6 with new font and machine learning

ColorOS 6

OPPO announced the next version of its custom launcher- ColorOS 6.0 on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of ColorOS at a special event in Shenzhen. The Chinese manufacturer further announced that the operating system is installed on more than 250 million devices in over 140 countries and regions.

The latest OS is based on a light color scheme, mainly mixing a white backdrop with light color gradients. The company says it is meant to create an airy atmosphere and is designed with a bezel-less smartphone in mind though it will also work on the older OPPO devices with bezels. The list of smartphones that will be getting the ColorOS 6.0 upgrade is yet to be revealed but we expect it comes preinstalled on the flagship and mid-range smartphone that will be launched from next year onwards.

The ColorOS 6.0 also packs in a new universal font called OPPO Sans which the company has developed with collaboration with well known Chinese typeface firm Hanyi. Additionally, the operating system comes with built-in machine learning that freezes app in the background instead of closing them. The AI application quick freeze will then analyze and monitor your daily habits and activities for two weeks. Though not mentioned, it’s likely to be based on the latest Android 9 Pie.

ColorOS 6

The ColorOS 6.0 will be launched next year and we are yet to see the full changelog and the devices that will be getting it firsthand. It will be competing against other launchers like EMUI 9.0 for Huawei and Honor devices, MIUI 9 for the Xiaomi devices, Oxygen OS 9 for OnePlus devices, VIBE UI for Lenovo devices, HTC Sense for HTC devices and even stock ROM from Google for the Pixel devices. Almost every custom launcher comes with third-party apps or bloatware and have their own theme, fonts, home transition effect, and gestures.
