Our Streaming Spending – And How You Can Cut Back On Some Costs

It is pretty remarkable to consider how streaming has become such a crucial part of our downtime in recent years.

Shows like Netflix’s The Crown have been big hits and the ultimate success of this area has been highlighted by new figures around the amount that Australians spend on such platforms.

A major area

The Guardian recently reported on data released by PwC. It revealed that households in Australia spend $4,500 a year on entertainment, with streaming platforms and gaming having a particularly major presence.

In addition, the report found that over 75 per cent of households paid for a streaming service last year. Of course, such figures do raise one question – is there any way we can bring our spending around streaming under control?

Well, one approach could be to reassess which platforms you ultimately need. It’s easy to sign up for a service to watch one or two items and then keep them even when they are not being used. With this in mind, step back and consider whether you can justify your level of spending. If your favourite shows are actually elsewhere, it might be time to ditch that platform.

Sports streaming

But, it is not just TV shows and movies that are on streaming services nowadays, as many sports fans will use them to catch the latest action.

Again though, if you are concerned about spending, you could look at whether you are using the services to their full capability. If your favourite teams and stars only appear now and then, should you have a rethink?

It is also worth thinking outside the box when it comes to sports. For instance, if you are into betting, have you considered that some apps offer live streaming? This guide to betting apps in Australia explains how such services are found on a handful of top bookies in the country and are ideal if you want to both watch and bet on the move. It adds that the sign of a quality app is when accessing streaming is easy, while it also mentions that different providers might offer different sports. So, take some time to consider which might work best for you.

Compelling content

Streaming has opened up a whole new world for entertainment, with it offering a range of interesting TV and sports content.

However, if you feel like your spending has got a little out of control, hopefully, the ideas above might be a good starting point as you consider your next steps.
