Based on the novel series by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander premiered on August 9, 2014 on Starz. The show is produced by David Brown, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, and distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

The series ran for five seasons with a total of 67 episodes. It has received positive reviews from critics and holds a rating between 85% to 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It was initially distributed by the video streaming service Lightbox in New Zealand. However after Sky acquired Lightbox, their streaming service Neon gained the distribution rights to the series in New Zealand.

Coming to the plot of Season 6 it will focus on Jamie and Claire struggling to establish and protect their home in colonial America in the middle of the political unrest leading to the Revolutionary War.

According to the network the upcoming season will revolve around Claire and Jamie fighting to protect the one’s they love. They must defend their home from the external forces along with the increasing strife and conflict in their community.

Even though the previous season showcased various plot points from the sixth book in the Outlander series, most of the content for the new season will be derived from A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Talking about the cast, the upcoming season will see the return of Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser, Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield and Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall.

Outlander Season 6 Release Date

The sixth season of Outlander is scheduled to release on March 6, 2022. The new season will consist of eight episodes and the show has been already renewed for a seventh season with 16 episodes.

The upcoming two seasons will be based on A Breath of Snow and Ashes and An Echo in the Bone. However, the name of the directors for this season has not been revealed yet.
