Outmatched is a sitcom on Fox centered around a blue-collar Atlantic City couple trying to make ends meet and raise four kids, three of whom are certified geniuses. The series is created by Lon Zimmet for Fox Broadcasting Company. It premiered on Fox on January 23, 2020. The first season had ten episodes, ending on March 26, 2020.
Outmatched stars Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson as the central couple, Mike and Kay. Mike is a home contractor and Kay is a pit boss in a local casino. Together, they have four kids, three of whom are certified geniuses. These kids are- Ashley Boettcher as Nicole, the genius eldest child; Connor Kalopsis as Brian, the second child and a genius as well; Jack Stanton as Marc, the younger son who has just been certified a genius as well; and Oakley Bull as Leila, the youngest child who is not a genius, and hence, is considered the “normal one”. Tisha Campbell stars as Rita, a blackjack dealer and Kay’s best friend. Finesse Mitchell stars as Irwin, Mike’s best friend and Rita’s husband.
Guest stars on Outmatched include Tony Danza as Mike’s father, Jay Bennett and Caroline Aaron as Mike’s mother and Jay’s wife, Sylvia Bennett. Cyrus Arnold guest stars as Atticus. Alyson Hannigan guest stars as Atticus’s mother, Beth, and Eddie Kaye Thomas guest stars as Atticus’s father, Sigmund.
Outmatched Season 2 – Is it happening?
Outmatched premiered in January 2020, as a Thursday night entry in Fox’s 2019-20 broadcast schedule. The first season had an average demo rating of 0.53 in the 18-49 category, which is 12th on Fox’s list of scripted shows for 2019-20. It had an average of 2.38 million viewers across its first season, with the final episode clocking a meagre 2.4 million viewers. The reviews of the show are also lukewarm, and the show didn’t gain much momentum as Fox had hoped it would.
Outmatched will not be returning for season 2 on Fox. Fox cancelled the show in May 2020.
