PEN15 is the latest radical cringe comedy to hit your screens! It is a web television series that first premiered on Hulu on February 8, 2019. Maya Erskine, Anna Konkle and Sam Zvibleman created the series, with the former two playing the lead roles. The show attempts to show middle school exactly as it was for most people, and obviously becomes extremely awkward and embarrassing to watch in the process. Caution: Only watch it if you are over middle school/high school, or get ready for a serious case of awkward memories. Is the show worth watching? When does it come out? Read more to find out!
PEN15: Plot and Cast
Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine attempt to bring back their middle school years with this awkward comedy show. They play their thirteen-year old selves and go back to middle school while being surrounded by real thirteen-year olds. The setting is full of late 90s and early 2000s references and is described as a place “where the best day of your life can turn into your worst with the stroke of a gel pen” –– Hulu.
Maya Erskine plays Maya Ishii-Peters, who is raised mostly by her mother. She is a Japanese-American seventh-grader who is exceedingly shy, quiet and sensitive. Yet, she is often the class clown due to her awkwardness and immature behaviour.
Anna Konkle plays Anna Kone, Maya’s best friend and fellow seventh-grader. She is dealing with a family divorce and uses music to cope with it. She is the best singer at the middle school. While Anna is more mature than Maya, she joins in her antics and readily gets peer pressured.
Other cast members are Mutsuko Erskine, Richard Karn, Taylor Nichols, Melora Walters, Taj Cross, and Dallas Liu.
