Penguin Town Season: Release Date, Cast, Trailer and More!

Hello, Readers! Everyone loves a good penguin documentary, and the new Netflix series Penguin Village promises to be both intriguing and hilarious as it follows a bunch of the tuxedoed birds as they arrive in a South African town to breed, wreaking havoc on the locals.

The Netflix series, Penguin Town follows the flippered birds as they form relationships in the most improbable of settings, much to the amusement of the humans in their environment.

This Netflix original series premieres on Wednesday, June 16 with all eight 25-minute episodes accessible to stream.

What is this about?

Penguin Town is about a very unusual kind of penguin: a raucous colony of endangered African penguins who walk the streets of Simon’s Town, South Africa, every summer, causing traffic jams and mayhem wherever they go.

The penguins arrive every summer to reproduce, having evolved to the scorching temperatures and being able to travel large distances. They take up beaches, streets, and even car parks in their effort to marry and prevent extinction.

The series introduces some of the quirkier of the quirky birds, including a troublemaking group nicknamed the “Car Park Gang” and cuddly newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. C, who all seem to have VIP status in the African town as they live, breed, and try to mate.

Who is the narrator of Penguin Town?

Patton Oswalt narrates the documentary series.

The Virginia-born actor and comedian are best known for his work in the TV show Veep, Justified, and Veronica Mars. He’s also a skilled voice actor who has contributed voices for American Dad, We Bare Bears, BoJack Horseman, and The Simpsons, as well as being Remy’s voice in Ratatouille.

They’ve been together for most of their life, even rearing 12 offspring in Simon’s Town under the same bush, and they’re roughly 12 years old, which is middle age for penguins.

“They’re the poster penguins for monogamy,” says Patton. “They know how to build the colony better than anyone and they’ve learned a secret that in Simon’s Town the closer to humans, the safer the nest because humans scare predators away. Their bush is one of the coolest spots in the neighborhood, which is crucial in the African heat.”
