Peter Coissy, the Miami-based record producer and CEO of Kingg Kong Records, shares details about his life, plans for the future, and everything in between.
Early Life
Peter Coissy was born in Miami, Florida. His parents were originally from Haiti, but his mother died when he was just 5 years old. Coissy recalls a tough childhood, particularly due to the bullying and racism he faced at school. As a Black kid, he was often mocked for his skin color and even called a “gorilla” by his schoolmates. But as Coissy grew up, he realized that he needed to reclaim his prestige. He decided to turn the mockery into pride. Thus, Kingg Kong Records was born, bearing the name of the fierce and powerful fictional character.
For Peter Coissy, music is an intoxication. What others search in drugs, he found in music. Coissy believes that music has the power to heal the soul. It is a magic doorway through which we could escape from the daily struggles of life. For him, music was a medium to tell enchanting stories to an audience. Peter knew he couldn’t be a singer, so he went with the next best thing – a music producer. Being a producer allowed him to give chance to other talented people who need to be heard. He established Kingg Kong Records in June 2020. Since he always loved the R&B genre, that’s what he went with his first production.
Inspirations
It would be hard to believe, but there was one man that made Peter Coissy define the flow of his career – DJ Khaled. Coissy was living a relatively normal life until last year. But one day, he woke up and decided that he wanted to be someone like DJ Khaled. Both Coissy and Khaled were artists of color who represent Miami in their works. So, it was no surprise that Coissy wanted to replicate his success. In fact, Coissy believes that he could represent the city even better since he is more from the streets than the DJ. From a musical perspective, Coissy has many influences – including Tupac, Rick Ross, Usher, and Maxwell. But as a record producer and the player of the game, he looks up to 50 Cent Rick Ross for what they have achieved in the business.
Beyond music, Coissy is an avid football fan. As a child, he always wanted to become a pro football player. Due to some health issues, he was unable to pursue this passion. But he continues to be a staunch football fan and a Patriots supporter. But perhaps what Coissy loves the most is supporting his community. After his early experiences with racism, he wants to ensure that future generations never face it. He is active in his community and takes part in various drives to give back. He is inspired by Malcolm X and wants to become someone who could similarly inspire the Black community. Someday, he wants to run for the governor of Florida! A tall dream, but Coissy is ready to walk the long path.
Future Plans
Peter Coissy has recently released the record “Cut Throat”, which is slowly catching up to everyone’s lips. Created by Wiseguy Frank featuring Boosie Badazz, “Cut Throat” turned out to be just the success Kingg Kong Records needed. Coissy wants to follow it up with more ambitious projects. On July 2nd he will release Florida Jit, an EP that will be a part of a larger project. There are plans to follow it up with a sequel, Florida Jit 2, early next year. Meanwhile, Coissy is planning to release more singles this year. The songs will feature artists like Pooh Sheisty, Big 30, and Renni Rucci.
Coissy’s ultimate dream is to leave a lasting legacy. He wants Kingg Kong records to become the greatest label in the world – a name everyone could recognize. He has miles to walk, but his start has been splendid. Here’s hoping Peter Coissy achieves everything he set out to win.
