Pistol: Release Date, Plot and more!

Created by Craig Pearce, Pistol is an upcoming biographical drama miniseries produced for FX. The show was announced back in January 2021 and will be directed by Danny Boyle.

Boyle and Pearce are also the executive producers alongside Anita Camarata, Hope Hartman, Steve Jones, Paul Lee, Gail Lyon and Tracey Seaward. The series is being distributed by Disney Platform Distribution and is scheduled to premiere soon on FX.

Pistol Plot and Cast

Talking about the plot of Pistol, it is based on the memoir of guitarist Steve Jones. It tells the story of the band from West London’s council estates to Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s notorious Kings Road SEX shop to the international controversy that came with the release of Never Mind the Bollocks, which was banned by BBC and is considered one of the most influential albums of all time.

FX head John Landgraf said that it faithfully captures the story of Sex Pistols, the British born, anti-establishment punk music band who started a revolution.

The series was launched after Lydon, also known as Johnny Rotten lost a court case with his former bandmates, drummer Cook and guitarist Jones, over the usage of the group’s songs in the limited series. Lydon also wanted to block the band’s tracks from being used in the series, with his lawyer claiming it would show him in a hostile and unflattering light, while the singer in court described the situation as slave labor.

Coming to the cast, it includes some popular names like Toby Wallace, Anson Boon, Louis Partridge, Jacob Slater, Christian Lees, Dylan Llewellyn, Sydney Chandler, Emma Appleton and others in the lead roles.

Pistol Release Date

Although the makers are yet to confirm an official release date, Pistol is expected to premiere sometime in May 2022. However, an official announcement is awaited on the same.

The miniseries would consist of six episodes, although the runtime for each remains unknown for now. Further details are expected to be announced soon.
