Xiaomi recently announced its sub-brand Redmi as an independent entity. The now independent Redmi is ready to launch its first smartphone with a 48MP camera phone in its home market. The Chinese brand recently posted a new Weibo post revealing that the handset is codenamed as “Little King Kong”. The embedded video in the posts hints that it will come with a highly durable glass body.

A new poster has surfaced in Weibo showing the front and rear design of the device. The poster shows a waterdrop display while the chin is not visible because of the Chinese texts overlaid on it. It is shown in a plain Black color option along with two gradient color option of blue-violet and purple pink. Below the vertically aligned dual camera setup, we can see a LED flash along with a “48MP AI dual camera text”. The 48MP camera is speculated to have 4 times pixels than the regular smartphones.

All the previously launched Redmi phones featured a metallic chassis but this phone sports a glass rear. In the video, Xiaomi employees are seen stamping on the phone but it successfully passed the entire torture test without any scratches or crack. The attached video shows the same waterdrop notch display with the rear panel housing a dual camera setup and a fingerprint sensor. The phone could be the same device that was recently certified from TENAA certification agency in China. The TENAA listing reveals that it will have a 6.3-inch FHD+ display and will be backed by a 3,900 mAh battery.

Rumors say that it will be the first smartphone with the Snapdragon 675 chipset. Xiaomi is yet to officially announce its name, but it could be the Redmi Note 7. The Redmi Note 7 was recently spotted in benchmarking site GeekBench with SD 660 which supports up to a 25MP camera. The mysterious 48MP Redmi smartphone will be revealed on January 10.
