Prodigal Son Season 2 – Cast details and more interesting updates!

Prodigal Son is a crime drama television series on Fox. The show is created by Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver for Fox Broadcasting Company. They also serve as executive producers on the show, along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The first season premiered in September 2019. In October 2019, Fox ordered Prodigal Son for a full 20 episode first season.

The official website of the show describes its premises as such-

“Malcolm Bright has a gift. He knows how killers think and how their minds work. Why? Back in the 1990s, his father was one of the worst, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon”. So it makes sense Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He will use his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother, annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son, and his own constantly evolving neuroses.”

Cast of Prodigal Son Season 2

Tom Payne stars as Malcolm Bright, a former FBI profiler now working for the NYPD. Lou Diamond Phillips stars as Gil Arroyo, a lieutenant with Major Crimes in NYPD. He hires Malcolm and takes him under his wing, after he is fired by the FBI. Halston Sage stars as Ainsley Whitly, Malcolm’s younger sister. Bellamy Young stars as Malcolm’s alcoholic mother, Jessica Whitly. She is a successful businesswoman from an old money high society family. Michael Sheen stars as Dr. Martin Whitly, Malcolm’s father, and “The Surgeon”.

Other cast members of Prodigal Son include Aurora Perrineau as Detective Dani Powell, an officer under Arroyo’s command; Frank Harts as Detective JT Tarmel, another officer under Arroyo’s command; and Keiko Agena as Dr. Edrisa Takana, an NYPD medical examiner.

Prodigal Son Season 2- Recent Updates

Prodigal Son stood sixth on the list of Fox’s scripted shows in 2019-20 in terms of average number of viewers. It averaged 3.37 million viewers across its twenty episode first season. Prodigal Son was renewed by Fox for a second season in May 2020.

Michael Sheen, who plays the role of “The Surgeon” on Prodigal Son, provided an update on season 2 of the show.

“The writers are writing it at the moment and we’re hoping that maybe around October time we’ll be able to start. But obviously it has to be done safely. I’m just trying to grow my hair and beard as long as I possibly can so that when we start season two I’ve got a strong look!”

Season 2 of Prodigal Son is slated to premiere in Fox’s 2020-21 broadcast season. We can expect it to premiere some time in mid-2021.
