QuakeCon is an annual event organized by ZeniMax Media. It is to honor and encourage the main ZeniMax-owned id Software properties and other studios. It involves a big, paying, bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) LAN party event held annually in Dallas, Texas, USA, with a tournament match.
The festival, named after the game Quake, has thousands of gamers from around the world participating each year to celebrate the gaming legacy of the organization.
The event is largely dependent upon volunteers to handle certain facets of the event’s administration. QuakeCon has traditionally been regarded as the “Woodstock of Esports” and a week of Peace and Love!
The 25th QuakeCon festival was set for August 2020 in Dallas, Texas. However, due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Bethesda Softworks and id Software canceled the event on March 31st, citing difficulty in coordinating with vendors and exhibitors at this point.
QuakeCon 2020 Date Announced
QuakeCon 2020 will take place on 7-9 August this year Bethesda and id Software has confirmed the online streaming of this year’s QuakeCon. Unlike other gaming shows, it was canceled due to a worldwide pandemic.
The news was released on Twitter via the verified QuakeCon handle. According to the post, QuakeCon at Home is set to run from August 7th to August 9th, which is the approximate timeline usually allocated for the conventional in-person showcase.
Although Bethesda and id, Software has not announced what would be included at QuakeCon at Home. They have noted that the festival would contain live streams, competitions, charitable donations, and a few fun surprises. In other words, it sounds like much of the material you would normally expect from the conventional QuakeCon would in any way make the transition to this online format.

QuakeCon is the latest game conference to make the switch to a multimedia format taking into account the worldwide pandemic. A handful of developers and publishers have started hosting their streaming events to highlight their titles. EA’s Play Live exhibition being the newest to join the list.
