Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 new details surface online, launch scheduled for Dec 4

Chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has already started giving out invites for its annual summit in Hawaii where it will be unveiling its latest processor Snapdragon 8150. The event’s welcome dinner is scheduled for December 3 but the announcements will begin on December 4. The invitation also showcases a Xiaomi VR headset playing Huawei landscapes in the video.

As for the Snapdragon 8150, it is expected to put an end to the 8xx moniker and move to four digits. The paper part of the package translates as “Dare to be the first 5G mobile experience”. The chipset is already performing well in the benchmarking websites like AnTuTu, GeekBench, and ai-benchmark. The chipset is said to deliver 20% increase in overall efficiency and introduction to the 5G network.

Today the folks at Ice Universe posted new technical details about the SD 8145 at their official twitter handle @UniverseIce. The leak mentions that the processor will have four low-power Kyro Silver cores that has 128KB L2 cache each and clocked at 1.8 GHz max in one cluster and three Kyro Gold cores with 256KB L2 cache per core and clocked at a max frequency of 2,419 GHz and a single Kyro Gold core with 512KB L2 cache with a maximum frequency of 2,842 GHz.

However, the tweet doesn’t mention any additional info on the cores and about their naming schemes Gold and Silver, which can refer to the number of custom cores. Taking a reference at the SD 845 these are likely Kyro 835 cores, as in custom ARM Cortex-A75 units for the Gold and Cortex A55 for the Silver.

The L2 cache values also seem to match with the 845 which are 256KB for the Gold and 128KB for the silver. As for the single Gold core, the cache seems ramped up but it gives no indication whether it is a Kyro 835 Gold or some new design based on ARM Cortex-A76. The chipset will also likely use the DinamicIQ architecture, so we can expect flexibility here. It will run on Adreno 640 but there is no word on the fabrication mode and LTE modem yet.
