Sumi DekaPresented by Graham Norton, Queen of the Universe is a drag queen singing competition television show for Paramount+. The series first premiered on December 2, 2021.
The first season of Queen of the Universe winner was Grag Queen from Brazil, with Ada Vox from the U.S. finishing as the runner-up. In February 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.
So, when is the second season releasing? What is the show’s format? Who will be the competitors and other cast members? Continue reading to know further details.
Queen of the Universe Season 2 Release Date
Queen of the Universe was renewed for a second season in February 2022. Considering that, we should expect it in the first half of 2023.
The new season should consist of six episodes like Season 1. However, the developers are yet to announce other details officially.
Queen of the Universe Season 2 Show Format and Cast
The debut season of “Queen of the Universe” was filled with some jaw-dropping moments, with Entertainment Weekly noting Trixie Mattel was particularly gagged by one performer’s rendition of Amy Winehouse’s classic “Rehab.”
Although the show is produced by WOW and features drag queens both onstage and on the judging panel, Michelle Visage made it clear to EW in a previous interview, “It’s a singing competition first, it’s a drag competition second. What you think you know is going to be out the door because, yes, it’s singing, but it’s definitely different.”
Likewise, Vanessa Williams clarified, “It’s a global aspect that we’ve never seen before, and it’s a singing competition; no one is lip-syncing, they’re all singing their own tunes. We’ll be judging them not only on the quality of their talent and musicianship, but also their star quality.”
Clearly, “Queen of the Universe” is a different beast, despite its connection to the greater “Drag Race” franchise. Considering Season 1 was fit to bursting with gag-worthy moments and shocking eliminations (per Distractify) we can reasonably expect Season 2 to up the ante considerably.
Of course, having judges is also important. Michelle Visage, Trixie Mattel, Vanessa Williams, and Leona Lewis are all expected back on the judging panel, barring any judge shakeups. Visage told Attitude that she was really excited to work with her friend Williams. Considering how well the judges get along, it’d be a crime not to have them back for Season 2.
So, we’ll just have to wait and see who the next batch of participants are, but it’s safe to assume that the all-star panel will remain intact for Season 2.
