Ratched: Release Date, Plot and Updates!

We had a saying in the Corps, ‘Save one life, and you are a hero. Save a hundred lives, and you are a nurse‘”, goes this powerful line in the recently released mysterious trailer of Ratched. The upcoming American psychological horror drama web-series promises a lot of edge-of-the-seat moments from the trailer itself. Ratched had been adapted from the bestselling 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey and is set to premiere on Netflix on September 18, 2020. The series had been created by Evan Romansky and produced by Paul Zaentz. Season 1 is said to consist of 9 episodes, and will also have a second season. If we go by the plotline of the book then, the story is going to be about the asylum nurse Mildred Ratched and her journey from a sober nurse to a full-blown villain.

The official description of Ratched on Netflix goes like this, “Ratched is a suspenseful drama series that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.” The book also gave birth to a movie of the same name back in 1975, and it is anticipated that the series will be even more interesting with the new technology.

Ratched is going to star Sarah Paulson as Nurse Mildred Ratched, Jon Jon Briones as Dr. Richard Hanover, Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck Finnigan, Alice Englert as Dolly, Amanda Plummer as Louise, Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright, Sophie Okonedo as Charlotte Wells, Vincent D’Onofrio as Governor George Milburn. Sarah Paulson shared some words to Vanity Fair about her role in the series,

I identified very deeply with her loneliness. I think ultimately, at the end of the day, that is sort of what drives Mildred: a pursuit of survival and of finding some sense of home. Even though the methods that she chooses to achieve that internal security are somewhat questionable, I would argue that she’s doing them with a potentially selfish need, but survival needs nevertheless. Sort of an animal need that blinds her to the inappropriateness of some of her actions.
