Former OPPO sub-brand Realme today launched its first selfie-focused smartphone in its line-up. Dubbed as the Realme U1, it is also the first phone to be powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset.
As for its specifications, the Realme U1 features a 6.3 inch IPS LCD display with a teardrop-shaped notch, a resolution of FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) and protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 finish. The top and side bezel measures 2.05mm and 1.7mm respectively leading to a high screen-to-body ratio of 90.8%. The rear of the device is made of acrylic with a special coating making it look like glass. The advantage is acrylic is more durable than glass and hence less prone to shattering along with weighing less.
The device runs on MediaTek Helio P70 chipset with four big Cortex-A73 cores and paired with a Mali G72 MP3 GPU. The P70 SoC promises steady 60fps in games with additional optimizations by the company. Moreover, it provides faster image processing, renders depth of field in real time, HDR and multiple-frame noise reduction for the cameras and a revamped resource allocation system the keeps power and temperature in check. It will be available in two configurations: 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage which can be further expanded by a microSD card.
In the optics department, the smartphone sports a dual camera set up in the rear of 13MP + 2MP configuration, similar to the one on Realme 2. Unfortunately, there is no 4K option and not even 1080p/60fps. The front carries offers a 25MP selfie camera with an IMX576 sensor and 0/9µm pixels placed at the top notch.
The handset runs on ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The company has also provided sidebars to give quick access to faster multitasking. It is backed by a 3,500 mAh battery supported by a 10W charging with micro USB and also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack. Other features include dual VoLTE, FM, offline text scanning, support for ORoaming app Hindi-English translations and dual nano-SIM.
As for the price the Realme U1 comes at a price tag of Rs 11,999 and Rs 14,999 for the 3/32GB and 4/64GB variant respectively. The first sale will go on from December 5 and will be available in Ambitious Black, Brave Blue, and Fiery Gold color options. The handset offers one of the best Selfie cameras in the mid-range and with this new chipset, it is sure to appeal to the youth.
