Launched in January this year, the Redmi Go is the first Android Go smartphone by the Xiaomi’s sub-brand. That said, the company has now sent press invites for the same. Notably, the Redmi Go smartphone will be launched in India on March 19. Furthermore, the ‘Go’ launch event is set to begin at noon IST, in New Delhi.
Thereafter, Xiaomi India chief Manu Kumar Jain tweeted out a launch teaser in Hindi, hinting the Redmi Go. The tweet also linked to a microsite on Mi.com which reveals certain aspects of the smartphone including Android Oreo (Go edition), Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, and an HD display.
Redmi Go Specifications, Features
The Redmi Go is an entry-level Android Go smartphone. It features a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display. There’s an old school 16:9 aspect ratio accompanied by a pixel density of 296ppi and 1000:1 contrast ratio.
Under the hood, the handset gets powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz. It is further coupled with the Adreno 308 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The phone comes in two configurations, including 1GB+8GB and 1GB+16GB options to chose from. There’s also a dedicated microSD card tray to expand the internal storage (up to 128GB).
As for the optics, there’s a single 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, and has a 4-element lens. There’s also a single LED flash to facilitate low light shots. The camera app is equipped with certain features including HDR, burst mode, real-time filters and smart scene modes. Video recording is limited to 1080p. On the front, we have a 5-megapixel selfie snapper with f/2.2 aperture.
On the software front, the handset runs Android Oreo (Go Edition) and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. Connectivity options onboard comprise of 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi Direct, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou.
Redmi Go Price in India (Expected)
The Redmi Go, being an entry-level mid-ranger is expected to be priced under Rs. 5,000 in India. This is because Xiaomi already has its Redmi 6A selling for Rs. 5,999 in the country. Lately, the Redmi Go went up for pre-orders in the Philippines at PHP 3,990 (roughly Rs. 5,400). Hence, a similar or lower price is expected for the India market. Stay tuned.
