Redmi Note 7 with 48MP camera launched at just Rs 10,500

Redmi today launched the most awaited Redmi Note 7 in China. Introduced by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, this is the first phone from the sub-brand after Xiaomi announced it as an independent entity in the past weeks. The smartphone’s USP is its 48MP camera with Samsung ICOSELL Bright GM1 sensor that is said to capture 4 times more pixels than regular smartphone cameras.

As for specifications, the Redmi Note 7 features a 6.3 inch LCD display with a waterdrop notch that contains the selfie camera protected by Gorilla Glass on top. It has Full HD+ resolution and has a screen-to-body ratio of 84%.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset which despite being a bit old is plenty fast and can handle day-to-day operations without lag. It is offered in three memory configurations: 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage which can be further expanded by a microSD card.

In the optics department, the device sports a 48MP rear camera but due to its Quad-bayer filter, it’s better used for outputting 12MP images with a 1,6 µm pixel and real-time HDR. It is supported by a 5MP secondary camera for depth sensing while the selfie camera is of 13MP.

The handset is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 which is supported by a USB Type-C port and a regular 5V/2A charger but customers can add a fast charging block in the package for just CNY 10 which will enable 9V/2A charger options. Lei Jun claims it will charge the phone from 0 to 100 in 1 hour 43 minutes.

As for the price, the Redmi Note 7 comes with a price tag of CNY 999 (Rs 10,500 approx) for the 3/32GB variant, CNY 1,199  (Rs 12,500 approx) for the 4/64GB variant while the higher 6/64GB variant comes with a price tag of CNY 1,399 (Rs 14,500 approx). It will be available in Blue, Twilight Gold and Black color options. The pre-registrations have already started and will go on sale from January 15. Though there is no word about its international release, it is expected to be launched in other markets like India in the upcoming months.
