Redmi launched the Redmi Note 7 and the Note 7 Pro in India earlier this year. The smartphones offer great features at an affordable price compared to other devices in its price range. The Chinese manufacturer is reportedly facing a huge demand for the Pro variant because of the 48MP camera. This might be the reason the company has decided to bring the Redmi Note 7s for the Indian market.
The Redmi Note 7S primary attraction is a 48MP primary camera. The sensor by default captures 12MP resolution photos due to its 4-in-1 Super Pixel Technology, which is Xiaomi’s own name for pixel binning. The 0.8µm pixels combine to form 1.6µm Super Pixels resulting in more detailed photos. There is a secondary 5MP sensor while offering a 13MP on the front as the Note 7. The cameras come with features like PDAF, Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and AI Portrait mode.
Xiaomi is touting the 48MP camera on the Note 7S as “flagship-grade” but didn’t reveal the exact model of the sensor. We suspect it to be the Samsung GM1 sensor available on the Chinese and global variants of the Note 7 (Not Indian). This might be the core difference with the 48MP sensor on the Redmi Note 7 Pro which has a Sony IMX 586 sensor.
The smartphone gets a 6.3 inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) IPS LCD display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, 450 nits brightness and 84% NTSC gamut. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. Like the Note 7, it draws power from a 4,000 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 fast charging support via a USB Type-C port. There is a rear fingerprint sensor and has P2i splash-resistant coating.
The Redmi Note 7S is available in Ruby Red, Onyx Black, Sapphire Blue. The Note 7S comes for Rs 1,000 extra starting at Rs 10,000 for the 3/32GB variant while the 4/64GB variant is priced at Rs 12,999. While the pricing is good against the Samsung Galaxy M-series, you might as well spend Rs 1,000 for the 4/64GB variant of the Redmi Note 7 Pro with a better camera and more powerful SD 675. The Note 7S will be available via Flipkart, Mi.com, Mi Home retail stores and other Xiaomi-authorized online stores from May 23.
