Renfield: Release Date, Plot, and more!

The upcoming American comedy horror film, Renfield is directed by Chris McKay. The movie is based on an original idea of Robert Kirkman and a reboot of Universal’s Dracula series.

Kirkman is also the producer of the film along with David Alpert, Sean Furst, Bryan Furst, and Chris McKay. Following the negative response towards Dracula Untold, the connections to a unified show was rejected and The Mummy was taken back to the first position in the series. However, the latter was also a failure and Universal decided to focus more on individual storytelling and stop pursuing the shared universe concept. A few other films were planned for the franchise but they did not materialize. There are less possibilities that the franchise might get revived in the future and the entire franchise might get a reboot.

Renfield is set to be released by Universal Pictures on April 14, 2023, in the theaters. Filming for the film started on February 3, 2022, in New Orleans.

Around 20 vehicles owned by the production team were burglarized on February 8. Shooting for the film concluded on April 14, exactly the same date when it started.

The plot of Renfield follows Count Dracula’s lackey Reinfeld discovers a new path in life in New Orleans where he falls for a traffic cop, Rebecca Quincy.
