Apart from 2020 itself being a thriller film, the year had also witnessed a great number of thriller movies and series, and the list is constantly getting longer. Hence, seeing the opportunity, director and writer Jon Stevenson, and producers J.D. Lifshitz, Brian Landis Folkins, Jon Stevenson, Annie Elizabeth Baker, Jimmy Weber, Robert B. Martin Jr., Brandon Fryman, and Raphael Margules brought to us the new thriller featured film Rent-A-Pal. The film is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2020, by IFC Midnight. The trailer looks very promising, and if you are a sucker for psychotic and horror thrillers, then this movie is definitely for you.
The official description of Rent-A-Pal on the IFC Films website goes like this, “Set in 1990, a lonely bachelor named David searches for an escape from the day-to-day drudgery of caring for his aging mother. While seeking a partner through a video dating service, he discovers a strange VHS tape called Rent-A-Pal. Hosted by the charming and charismatic Andy, the tape offers him much-needed company, compassion, and friendship. But, Andy’s friendship comes at a cost, and David desperately struggles to afford the price of admission.” From the description, we totally get the fact this movie is going to churn out the inner human emotions and vulnerability when it comes to the eradication of loneliness from our lives.
If people want to watch a real psychological thriller, wait till next Friday when Rent-A-Pal comes out.
My review drops Monday but hands down the best film of 2020.
Rent-A-Pal is going to star Wil Wheaton, Brian Landis Folkins, Amy Rutledge, Kathleen Brady, Adrian Egolf, Josh Staan, Luke Sorge, Olivia Hendrick, Karin Carr, Sara Woodyard, and Brandon Fryman. In an interview, director Stevenson shared some words regarding his directional debut,
“It’s an honor to have my directorial debut released on IFC Midnight. Their history of high-quality genre entertainment has directly inspired my work. To now be a part of their rich film library is surreal. I look forward to working with their team in releasing Rent-A-Pal. This movie is near and dear to my heart and I’m truly excited for the world to see it. And for the world to see a very different side of Wil Wheaton.”
