Based on the 1975 television series of the same name by Robert Hamner, S.W.A.T. is an American action drama television series. Developed by Rick Husky, Aaron Rahsaan Thomas, and Shawn Ryan, the series premiered on November 2, 2017, on CBS.

Produced by Original Film, CBS Studios, and Sony Pictures Television, the series’s second season was released on September 27, 2018, followed by the third and fourth on October 2, 2019, and November 11, 2020. The fifth season premiered recently on October 1, 2021, and it has been renewed for a sixth season.

S.W.A.T. is based on a 1975 series of the same name which followed the operations of a SWAT team in an unnamed Californian city. The 1975 series starred Steve Forrest as Lt “Hondo” Harrelson, the unit’s leader. Though it only ran for two seasons, the show spawned a spin-off The Rookies, and a 2003 feature film that had Samuel L. Jackson as Sergeant II Dan “Hondo” Harrelson.

The makers of the show have not revealed much about the plot of the show. However, it focuses on Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a former marine and Los Angeles-bred SWAT sergeant who runs a highly-trained, specialized tactical unit in Los Angeles. S.W.A.T. has been praised for its approach to handling stories that involve tensions between police and the African-American community, as the show’s lead character is recognized as a bridge between the force and the community.

The main cast members for Season 6 include Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Lina Esco, Kenny Johnson, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Amy Farrington, and Patrick St. Esprit. Since it is a new season, we might get to see some new faces.

The makers have already announced the release date for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 7, 2022, on CBS.

It has been confirmed that the upcoming season will consist of 22 episodes. All the seasons of S.W.A.T. are available for streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and CBS.
