Developed by Aaron Rahsaan Thomas and Shawn Ryan, S.W.A.T. is an American procedural action drama television series, it is based on the 1975 television series of the same name created by Robert Hamner and developed by Rick Husky.

The show is produced by Original Film, CBS Studios, and Sony Pictures Television and the executive producers of the show are Shawn Ryan, Neal H. Moritz, Aaron Rahsaan Thomas, Marney Hochman, Danielle Woodrow, Pavan Shetty, Justin Lin, and Paul Bernard. The show exists in a shared universe with the FX crime drama The Shield, which Ryan also created. In April 2021, the series was renewed for a fifth season which premiered on October 1, 2021. In April 2022, the series was renewed for a sixth season.

S.W.A.T Plot and Cast

S.W.A.T. is based on a 1975 series of the same name which followed the operations of a SWAT team in an unnamed Californian city. The 1975 series starred Steve Forrest as Lt “Hondo” Harrelson, the unit’s leader. Though it only ran for two seasons, the show spawned a spin-off The Rookies, and a 2003 feature film that had Samuel L. Jackson as Sergeant II Dan “Hondo” Harrelson.

The makers of the show have not revealed much about the plot of the show. However, it focuses on Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a former marine and Los Angeles bred SWAT sergeant who runs a highly-trained, specialized tactical unit in Los Angeles. S.W.A.T. has been praised for its approach to handle stories that involve tensions between police and the African-American community, as the show’s lead character is recognized as a bridge between the force and the community.

The main cast members for Season 6 include Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Lina Esco, Kenny Johnson, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Amy Farrington and Patrick St. Esprit. Since it is a new season, we might get to see some new faces.

S.W.A.T Season 6 Release Date

S.W.A.T. Season 6 official release date is yet to be announced. As for now, only the renewal announcement has been made. But if we have to guess anything by considering the pattern to previous seasons, it should premiere in October or November 2022.

It has been confirmed that the upcoming season will consist of 22 episodes. All the seasons of S.W.A.T. are available for streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and CBS.
