Handling

Bulk containers can easily be moved with the use of a forklift. The forklift can easily pick up an entire unit as opposed to drums that require pallets and protection. Drums need to be secured on pallets to prevent them from falling off and spilling their contents.

Decanting

Since IBCs have a much larger screw cap on their valves, it becomes a lot easier to refill. In the case of drums, the screw caps are on the top making it harder to either empty or refill without proper gravity drainage. Hence, a certain degree of manipulation is needed to prevent accidents.

Storage

Unlike drums, IBC containers are usually stacked one on top of the other. This makes it easier to be funded. Bunds add protection to the entire unit and reduce the chances of spillage. Additionally, they also contain up to 110% of the entire capacity which means that the bunds can easily support up to 1100.

So, if you’re in the process of storing a couple of IBC containers, be sure that the bund capacity is at least 25% of the entire volume. In the case of 8 containers, the bunds should be equivalent to 25% of 8000 liters. Hence, the value should amount to 2000 liters at a minimum.
