Samsung Device with an under-display camera technology confirmed

To attain the maximum screen to body ratio, smartphone manufacturers are looking for innovative ways to improve the overall viewing experience. Manufacturers tried different ways to achieve this by opting different kinds of notches, pop-up selfie camera units,  punch hole camera modules and sliding camera units. Yet, nothing seems to work till date.  Recent reports claim that Samsung is working on ‘Perfect Full Screen’  display technology.  This confirms that the company is working on a Samsung device with an under-display camera.

Samsung’s under-display Camera Technology:

Vice President of Samsung display R&D group, Yang Byung-Duk confirmed the possibility of a ‘Perfect Full Screen’ display a few weeks ago. This modern display technology aims to provide a display without any punch hole notches or pop-up units. The reports also claim that all the sensors will be placed underneath the display. The front-facing camera and display are kept unimpaired with each other. In the situations where the camera is not in use, the camera hole will be invisible. So whenever the selfie camera is in use, the display goes transparent which makes the selfie camera appear.  This technology shares quite a lot of similarities with current generation in-display fingerprint sensors.

This is not the first time Samsung has pronounced its plans to produce a ‘Perfect Full Screen’ display device. In a demonstration given by the company last year, they said that they are working on four modern display technologies to take full advantage of the display. The four technologies are in-display fingerprint sensors, in-display cameras, the displays with haptic feedback and in-display speakers. Although we have predicted Samsung to bring the first in-display fingerprint sensor, few Chinese OEM’s released their devices with this technology. And we’ve also seen the in-display speakers on LG G8, where the display vibrates to produce the sound.

At this moment we don’t exactly know how this technology looks on the device and holds-up in a real-world usage. For more information on Samsung device with an under-display camera, stay tuned with us.
