After the launch of Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30, and Galaxy A50, Samsung unveiled the all-new Galaxy A80 with a sliding and rotating camera earlier this week, in Thailand. Samsung Galaxy A80 is not only a premium mid-range phone but also a unique one from the house of Samsung. This is the first phone from Samsung which packs a pop-up camera.
Samsung Galaxy A80 Specifications
The Galaxy A80 boasts a 6.7-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with the resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. Underneath the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G S0C. This SoC offers an octa-core CPU with two Kryo 460 gold cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and six 460 silver cores at 1.7 GHz. Adreno 618 GPU handles the Gaming duties. Moreover, the Galaxy A80 comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The USP (Unique selling point) of the Galaxy A80 is its pop-up rotatory camera unit. The pop-up unit includes a 48MP primary unit with an f2.0 aperture and 8MP ultra-wide unit with f2.2 aperture. There is a territory Time of Flight (ToF) sensor for depth mapping. All the cameras rotate over to the front whenever required. During the launch, CEO of IT division, DJ Koh announced that Galaxy A80 is made for the post-millennial generation. This camera comes handy for people who spend their time on popular social media portals like TikTok and Instagram.
These cameras on the Galaxy A80 also carry features like Portrait video. Samsung calls it as Live Focus video, but again, it is the same feature that applies background blur for videos. This feature work just like the portrait mode, by keeping subject in the focus and blurring out the background. The computer vision unit in the ISP of the Snapdragon 730G is responsible for such features.
Talking about the Galaxy’s pop-up rotatory camera, there are two advantages with this rotating camera on Galaxy A80. The first advantage is, it removes the need to add a notch or punch a hole for the camera. Secondly, now you need not to compromise on optics. Both the front and back cameras can click the images in same quality and resolution. The unit takes around a second to pop-up and rotate once switched to front camera.
Talking about the performance, it is proved that Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 is just as powered as Snapdragon 835. The Galaxy A80 managed to score 207082 points. The score is almost the same as the devices powered by Snapdragon 835 or Kirin 970 chipsets. As for the other specifications, there is an in-display fingerprint sensor and the device is backed by a 3700mAh battery. It is worth noting that, there is no SD card slot or 3.5mm headphone jack in this smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy A80 India Launch – Price and availability (Expected)
The price of the Samsung Galaxy A80 is not announced yet. But the device is said to carry a price of EUR 649 (approximately. 50000 INR) in European market. And there is no word about the Indian launch and price yet. But Samsung Galaxy A80 will be available in various markets starting May 29. For more updates on the same, stay tuned with us.
