Today, Samsung launched the Galaxy A9 2018 smartphone in India. The smartphone which was launched back in Malaysia last month is the world’s first smartphone to sport a quad camera setup in the rear. The handset aims to compete with the likes of premium mid-range devices like Poco F1 and OnePlus 6T.
As for the specifications, the Galaxy A9 2018 features a 6.3-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display and is powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset clocked at 2.2 GHz. It will be available in two configurations: 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage which can be further expanded to 512GB with a microSD card.
The Quad-camera setup in the rear includes a 24MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture 8MP wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture and a 10MP sensor with 2X optical zoom and f/2.4 aperture. The quad cameras allow users to easily switch between regular to wide angle. On the front, it offers a 24MP camera for selfies and video calling. The camera comes with features like customizable Live Focus, Scene optimizer (AI based), AR emojis, Selfie focus, Pro lightning and more. Additionally, it detects flaws in photos such as closed eyes, facial blur, or backlight encouraging to re-click them.
It runs on Samsung UI on top of Android Oreo and is backed by a 3,800 mAh battery with fast charge support. Connectivity features includes 4G VoLTE, VHT80, Bluetooth 5.0 , Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4 + 5GHz), GPS + GLONASS, micro USB Type-C, 3.5 mm audio jack while sensors onboard includes accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, RGB light sensor magnetometer and proximity sensor. There is a fingerprint sensor at the rear though it supports Face Unlock too.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 comes at a starting price of Rs 36,990 and Rs 39,990 for the 6GB and the 8GB RAM variants respectively. The smartphone is available in three gradient color options: Bubblegum Pink and Lemonade blue that has a gradient tone that moves from a darker shade to light one and a Caviar Black. It will be available for pre-order from November 20 via Airtel online store, Amazon India, Samsung Shop, Paytm Mall and Flipkart and will go on sale from November 28. Launch offers include Rs 3,000 cashback offer on purchase of the smartphone via HDFC Bank or Credit card.
Samsung has also joined hands with Bharti Airtel to give the 6GB variant through the Airtel online store at down payment of Rs. 3,690 and EMI of Rs. 2,349, while giving the 8GB variant at a down payment of Rs. 4,890 and EMI of Rs. 2,449. Customers purchasing the handset using the EMI options will be getting Airtel postpaid plan bundles along with additional benefits such as unlimited voice calls, national roaming, and a free subscription to Airtel TV.
