Samsung starts recalling of its Galaxy Fold Units

A day after issuing an official statement about postponing its foldable smartphone launch, Samsung is again on the headlines. The South Korean giant has begun a global recalling of the Galaxy Fold devices sent out to tech reviewers and member of the press. According to Reuters, the company is asking testers to return the devices to conduct a thorough analysis of screen issues.

Many Samsung Galaxy Fold units have malfunctioned due to certain users pealing the protective layer of the display. Some users reported screen bulges issue that rendered half of the display issues. Either way, the product is clearly not ready for market launch and is best for Samsung to sort it out before it releases to global customers.

Samsung recently announced the delayed launch of the Galaxy Fold. The announcement comes days ahead of its previously scheduled launch in the countries like China, US and South Korea. The phone is not canceled so the pre-order customers will get the product first when the device is eventually released. Samsung stated that it will be updating those buyers with a specific release date within two weeks.

The company states that its main focus is on improving and bringing possible consumer experience. Surely, it is better to delay the launch instead of launching a faulty product in the market. Samsung has a firsthand experience on the Galaxy Note 7, when it suspended all its sales and announced an informal recall after finding a manufacturing defect in batteries that caused to generate excessive heat resulting in fire and explosion.

The Galaxy Fold was launched earlier this year at an event in San-Francisco. The phone-tablet hybrid device uses a 7.3 inch Infinity Display Flex Display. It allows the phone to have a tablet-sized display that can fold into the size of a smartphone. The device works in a hinge system with “multiple interlocking gears”. It doesn’t completely fold in half resulting in a small gap in the center when closed. It features six cameras with a triple camera rear setup consisting of a 16MP ultra-wide camera, 12MP wide-angle and telephoto lens, and a 10MP cover camera for selfies.
