Samsung’s Next Flagship Phone “W2019” alleged to come with SD845

As usual, the South Korean giant Samsung has launched two flagship devices this year i.e. the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ and the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Now, there are rumors building up that a new Samsung flagship device (alleged to be the W2019might launch soon in China with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 at its core.

For starters, Samsung has been selling its ultra-premium Android powered flip phones under W-series exclusively in Chinese market. To recall, the Samsung W2017 was launched back in November 2016 with dual-displays, a fingerprint scanner and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset at a price tag of whopping $3,000 (roughly Rs. 2,17,000) followed by the launch of Samsung W2018 in December 2017 which packed the newer Snapdragon 835 chipset, dual aperture lens and for a price tag of $2,000 upwards.

Generally, these W-series flagship flip phones land a few months before the launch of the next S-series flagship and this time, it’s the turn of W2019 which is likely to come in December. Looking at the past, we expect the W2019 to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, running on Android Oreo (might be the Android Pie as well).

Now, we don’t really have any official announcement regarding the W2019 but there are quite a lot of rumor mills  about the same which gives us a hint about the specifications.

@MMDDJ_, who is a Chinese leaker of Samsung products and has a pretty good track record was the first one to mention W2019, he revealed that the W2019 is code-named as “Project Lykan” and will be featuring a dual camera setup. Following which, the guys at SamMobile discovered a firmware build W2019ZCU0ARI1 which clearly turns out to be of W2019.

Taking the above information into consideration, guys at XDA found several references to a device code-named “lykan” on digging up the kernel source code for the SD 845 variant of the Samsung Galaxy S9. They also found two files named as sdm845-sec-lykanlte-chn-r00.dtb and sdm845-sec-lykanlte-chn-r01.dtb as Device Tree BLOBs (DTB) in the project’s makefile.

On further examination, XDA concluded that “lykan” packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and is a device intended solely for the Chinese market.

Although, we don’t have any exact information about the device, we can expect the W2019 to come with beefy specs and some great cameras. It will be launched by the company in China a few months ahead of the upcoming Galaxy S10 and S10+.
