Do you still remember “The Blair Witch Project”? One of the most critically acclaimed and popular horror movies of all time. I remember watching it for the first time, the movie never showed a so-called “Ghost” yet managed to creep and scare the soul out of you. “The Blair Witch Project” was one of a kind experiment with no budget at all, otherwise we can’t even imagine a horror-movie without VFX. The most stunning thing it did was to shoot a pseudo-documentary meant to make the audience believe that they’re not watching a story or a plotted scenario, but are watching the real thing or, in other words, it broke the fourth wall.
The co-director of “The Blair Witch Project”, Daniel Myrick returns this June with a similar experiment. He has made a pseudo-documentary about the horrors of Extra-terrestrial happenings observed by local people. “Skyman” directed by Daniel Myrick has already had its world premiere at 2019 Austin film Festival after which it was acquired by Gravitas Ventures. The film is set in 1987 and tells the story of a boy who was subjected to extra-terrestrial influence and also saw a UFO. The official synopsis reads as-
“In 1987, just days after his 10th birthday, Carl Merryweather rocked the local news community when he claimed he was visited by an extraterrestrial life form. Despite other alleged sightings reported that same evening, skeptical authorities shrugged off the claims. Now, almost three obsessive decades later, Carl is set on a mission to reunite with the being he calls ‘the Skyman’ to not only prove the skeptics wrong but to ultimately find his own true sense of purpose. Through first-hand home videos interwoven with news footage and interviews, Skyman is a bold and compelling study of the fascinating and unquestioning world of UFO subculture.”
The main cast of “Skyman” consists of Michael Selle, Nicolette Sweeney and Faleolo Alailima. The lead role of Carl Merryweather is played by Jacob Sandler, who you may remember as the younger version of Brad Pitt in “Ad Astra”.
Along with the direction, Myrick also serves as one of the producers of the film, here’s what he had to say about the movie-
“I grew up in an era where the talk of UFO’s, Bigfoot and the ‘Devil’s Triangle’ were all the rage and was inspired by the personal experiences from so many people not unlike Carl Merryweather, Whether you believe in the legitimacy of these accounts or not, they reveal a deeper human truth that I find quite compelling and speak to the notion that so many of us are searching for something greater than ourselves – and I’m excited to finally bring a little bit of that mystery to the big screen”.
Skyman releases in the theatres on June 30, 2020, and VOD on July 7. Here’s the trailer-
