Spider-Man: Far From Home gave everyone quite a shocker with that mid-credits scene. A third Spider-Man film was inevitable, although things did look kind of bleak when Sony and Disney were unable to reach an agreement over the third film in August 2019. All was sorted, however, and in September 2019, the third Spider-Man film with Tom Holland was officially announced. The film would be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as decided by Sony and Disney. The yet-untitled film will be the fourth film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, said this about the third Spider-Man film at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019:
“A Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film.”
This statement came on the back of the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Cast of Spider-Man 3
Jon Watts returns as director for the third Spider-Man film. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers also return to pen down the screenplay for the third film. Tom Holland and Zendaya will be back in their respective roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ. Other cast details are still not finalized yet, but we can expect to see Jacob Batalon reprising his role as Peter’s best friend Ned. Another cast member that is expected to return is Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Jon Favreau might also be back as Happy Hogan, but that is still to be confirmed. There have been reports that Tony Revolori might also be back as Flash Thompson.
With Morbius hopefully tying up the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters and the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, we can also expect Michael Keaton to be back as Vulture, although that is a very long shot.
Release Date of Spider-Man 3
The filming of Spider-Man 3 is expected to begin in late 2020 after Tom Holland finishes filming for Uncharted. Spider-Man 3 was initially scheduled to release on July 16, 2021, but the release date was pushed by Disney in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The untitled third Spider-Man film is now scheduled to release on December 17, 2021.
