Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced us to the Miles Morales incarnation of Spider-Man, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli. The film received huge praise for its animation style, which included both computer animations and hand-drawn comic book techniques. The film required 140 animators; the largest animation crew Sony Pictures Animation had ever used in a film. The film collected over $375 million dollars worldwide on a budget of about $90 million. It also won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, becoming the first non-Disney/Pixar film since Rango (2011) to win that award.

“In the end, we found the movie played fine without us tagging every single possible thing, but we definitely think of Liv as someone who is not gone from the story, and who in many ways, is our most powerful bad guy.”
