Netflix released season one for Spinning Out in January 2020. The episodes were released in a bulk and total episodes this show has in 8. Netflix however, later announced that the show will not be renewed for season two and that it will only be having one season.
The show was cancelled after season one because of its average reviews and inability to garner viewers and a strong fanbase. The story revolves around the life of an Olympic ice skating figure. It delves into her personal life, how her failures and successes affect her mental and emotional well being.
Not only this, but it also shows her strained relations with her family, specifically her mom and sister. It also has a love angle to it. The show is beautifully set in the winters and the icy background and the wonderful costumes worn by the cast did make it seem like it is worth a watch.
However, there are just too many open endings in every episode. The writers have not covered the loopholes and the show has too many sensitive topics sewed together. There isn’t enough characterisation done and the script has just been put together to make a show out of it.
The only redeeming quality of this show is the fantastic ice skating done by the cast, the shooting location and there outfits and makeup! The cast of this show included:
- Kaya Scodelario as Kat Baker, a competitive ice skater secretly struggling with bipolar disorder
- Willow Shields as Serena Baker, Kat’s younger half-sister
- Evan Roderick as Justin Davis, a pair skater from a wealthy family who can’t keep a partner, and has a bad boy reputation.
- David James Elliott as James Davis, Justin’s father
- Sarah Wright Olsen as Mandy Davis, Justin’s stepmother and James’ second wife
- Svetlana Efremova as Dasha Fedorova, Justin and Kat’s coach
- Amanda Zhou as Jenn Yu, Kat’s best friend and a fellow figure skater
- Mitchell Edwards as Marcus Holmes, Kat’s friend and co-worker
- Kaitlyn Leeb as Leah Starnes, a new skater who was supposed to partner with Justin
- Will Kemp as Mitch Saunders, Serena’s coach
- January Jones as Carol Baker, Kat and Serena’s mother who also suffers from bipolar disorder
The crew at Netflix wasn’t disappointed to cancel this show after its first season. The fans, however, we’re sad to part ways from the cast and the show! You can stream the first season on Netflix!
