Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game is a South Korean survival drama television series, produced for Netflix. Hwang is also the director and writer of Hwang and the music is composed by Jung Jae-il.

The first season of the show premiered on September 17, 2021 and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. It currently holds an approval rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been scored 69 out of 100 on Metacritic. The series has been renewed for a second season by the makers.

Squid Game Plot and Cast

At the end of Season 1, Gi-hun managed to beat the game against all odds. After the death of Squid Game’s creator, Gi-hun finds that the competition is still going with new recruits. Now it will be easy to continue the story of Gi-hun centre stage again, doing all he can to stop the game as he vows to do in the last moments.

However, it is hard to imagine that how Gi-hun can defeat the game’s creators, even with his newfound wealth. One complication is the impossibility of sneaking anywhere undetected with that mop of flame-red hair. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that Gi-hun will return and do something for the world.

The ending of Season 1 left the door wide open for Gi-hun to return for the second season, but if Hwang ends up changing his mind on that front, there are other ways for Squid Game to continue another season without him.

Coming to the cast of the second season, we should get to see Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi and Kim Joo-ryoung in the lead roles. Further additions to the cast are expected to be announced soon by the makers.

Squid Game Season 2 Release Date

The first season of Squid Game premiered on September 2021 and was renewed later for a second season. The new season is under development and is expected to release by 2024 according to online sources.

The upcoming season might consist of nine episodes like Season 1, although an official confirmation is awaited. The developers are yet to reveal further details related to the second season.
